FUTURA by Jordan Harrison

On her first day back at the University, a rogue Professor sets out to avenge her missing husband – and the lost art of ink on paper – by conducting a dangerous lesson on typography. When the Professor’s lecture jumps the rails, we peer into a near future where desperate people search for the tangible in an ever more virtual age.

  • Katy is humbled to be cast as Lorraine and to be a part of Spark Plug Theatre Collective’s first outing. She enjoys supporting theater and arts onstage, behind the scenes and from the audience. And she encourages everyone to have a little art in their lives, in whatever shape that comes. Thanks to Amanda for this opportunity, to Les, Jenny, Steve and Anna for their support in this journey. And her family-Barry, Julia, and Claire.

  • Hailed by some as a “local comedy hero”, Les is an accomplished actor and improviser. He has been seen in many productions around the Portland area. He is just trying to get to 100 words to fill in this space. If you really want to know more about him, you can ask. Whether he’ll give you a straight answer or not, only he will know. Shoot. Thirty two more words to go. He likes long walks on the beach. What else? He wanted to thank his cast and crew and the director, yadda yadda yadda, blah blah blah. And 100!

  • Steve Holgate, a Tigard native, has been acting for more than 50 years. Over that time he has taken leading roles in such diverse plays as The Lion in Winter, Arsenic and Old Lace, Finian’s Rainbow, and A Thousand Clowns. He has appeared in Beaverton Civic Theatre productions of Harvey, The Crucible, The Elephant Man and Twelve Angry Jurors. He has also presented a one-man show on Abraham Lincoln for nearly 25 years. In addition to his acting, Holgate has also published four novels to highly positive reviews, and lousy sales (stephenholgatewrite.com).

  • Jenny is excited to bring her badass side out to play in FUTURA. She recently returned from touring her solo play Cinnamon and Cigarettes to Los Angeles: this was a major dragon-slaying moment for her, as that play is her autobiographical story of finding her voice and healing after multiple traumas, including “giving up” on her dream of “professional” acting and running away from Hollywood years ago. Spoiler alert: we’re never “too old” or “too shy” or “too [insert your favorite negative belief about yourself here]” to follow our dreams. • Amanda's heart is full to be back bringing stories through Spark Plug Theatre Collective! Past directing credits include: FUTURA, Two Witches, No Waiting, Ramona Quimby, and Almost, Maine. She has also been seen onstage at various local theatres. Favorite roles include Mary Anning in Digging Up Dessa, Berta in Boeing, Boeing, and Corie Bratter in Barefoot in the Park. Amanda holds degrees in Acting and Advertising from Ball State University and works as the Marketing Coordinator for Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg.

  • Anna (pronounced “Ah-na”) is both a seasoned Stage Manager and performer. She and Amanda have been partners in various theatre crimes for several years – with shows including Almost, Maine,  Ramona Quimby and Two Witches, No Waiting brought to life over at Beaverton Civic Theatre. She has also dabbled in improv and is a marching percussionist, having played for audiences all across the United States and Shanghai, China. A big warm welcome to everyone joining us for Spark Plug Theatre Collective's debut and a massive thanks to all the talented people who made it possible!
